어머나 벌써 10년도 더 된 앨범이라니!

내가 최초로 접했던 메가데스 앨범이기에,

세간의 평가와는 별도로 개인적인 애착이 큰 앨범.

당시 기타리스트였던 글렌 드로버가

메가데스에는 별로 어울리지 않는다는 등

매니아들에게 다소 아쉬운 평가를 받으면서

자연스레 앨범에 대한 평가도 리프 돌려쓰기 같은거 땜시

평작과 명작의 사이쯤으로 여겨졌었는데,

요즘들어 옛 생각에 다시 돌려보니

최소한 곡 별로 본다면

날카로운 기타 톤이 살아있는 명곡이 많다.

유엔 본부가 박살나는 앨범 커버답게

궁극의 경지에 오른 사회 비판 메세지는 덤.

특히나 이곡은 라틴어까지 동원한

은유적인 비판이 많아서 솔까말 이해가 어렵다.

하지만 가끔은 사회 비판도 좀 해보고 삽시다!

끝내 증거를 찾지 못하고 끝난 이라크전을 지칭하는게 아닐런지)

교회와 가족을 공격하고,
Keep the public undisciplined till nothing left is sacred and
신성한 것들이 더이상 남지 않을 때까지 공공질서를 무너트리고,
The "have-nots" get hooked and have to go to the "haves" just to cop a fix
가지지 못한 자들이 약에 쩔어버리고, 약을 구하기 위해 가진 자들에게 가야만 한다.

(cop a fix는 약쟁이들이 약구하는걸 나타내는 Idiom, 속어라네요.)
